My data is missing or disappeared
Don't reinstall your browser, don't clear more data "just to see if it helps," and don't uninstall or reinstall anything. Most data-loss scares are recoverable if you stop making changes right now.
Step 1: Confirm which browser and profile you're in
GBooks Air stores data per browser, per device, per browser profile. Before assuming anything is actually lost, check:
- Are you in the same browser you always use, and not a different one you happened to click open?
- Same browser profile or account, if your browser supports more than one?
- The exact same URL —
air.gshfinancial.com? - A normal window, not private or incognito? Private windows never share data with normal ones, and never will.
A surprising number of "my data disappeared" cases turn out to be "I opened a different browser than usual." Worth ruling out first.
Step 2: Do you have a backup?
If you set one up following encrypted backup setup, restoring is straightforward. Open GBooks Air, choose Restore from backup, pick your most recent file, and enter your passphrase or recovery key. You'll be right back to the state as of that backup.
Step 3: No backup? Check these before giving up
- Browser data recovery — some browsers hold onto IndexedDB data briefly even after a "clear data" action, especially if the tab was never fully closed. Don't clear anything further while you check.
- Other devices — if you've ever used GBooks Air on a different computer or browser, that copy may still hold your data, as of whenever you last touched it there.
- Downloaded backup files — check your Downloads folder and any cloud storage for a backup you made and forgot about, or an auto-saved copy in Google Drive if you'd connected it.
What causes this in the first place
| Cause | Recoverable? |
|---|---|
| Cleared browser or site data | Only with a backup |
| Used a different browser or profile | Yes — the data's still sitting in the original browser |
| Private or incognito window | No — this data never persists past the session, by design |
| Browser or OS reinstall | Only with a backup |
| A "cleaner" or antivirus utility ran | Only with a backup |
Once you're back up and running
Whether you restored or had to start fresh, set up encrypted backups right away if you haven't already. Honestly, this is the one troubleshooting page we'd rather you never had to open twice.
